Asbestos is a mineral fiber that occurs in rock and soil.  Due to its fiber strength and heat resistance asbestos has been used in many products and materials including building and construction materials such as acoustic ceilings, plaster, drywall, insulation, fire retardant, shingles, tiles and cement products.
